Denny's Restaurant

It was one of those nights where i didnt feel like sleeping n i was hyped up from jz returning from some sort of meeting with my fellow Christians...

So bored Nesa, excitable Suesday & hungry me went for a 20 minute drive at 1am down to a 24-hrs Porirua retaurant called "Denny's Restaurant".

Nesa had Hot Chocolate.
Suesday had Lipton Yellow Label Tea.
I hada Latte.

Nesa & Suesday shared a Chicken Salad while i hada Millenium sandwich.

The food & drinks at the restaurant come in gigantic quantities...

Match Fixing Scandal In Italian Football League Elite

Several top flight Italian clubs were found guilty of match fixing...
Among them, my fav club: AC Milan.

The board appointed to decide on a proper punishment hav come up with these conclusions after two hearings:

For AC Milan,

AC Milan, who in my oppnion recieved the lightest punishment of all, will remain in the Serrie A as decided in a previous hearing but with a smaller number of points deducted; They start the new season with negative 8 point rather than negative 15.
There was also a punishment on last season's points tally which was reduced from deducting 44 points to deducting 30 points.
With last season's points deducted, AC Milan will not get automatic qualification for the Champions League but will hav to play Chievo Verona in the qualification round.

For Fiorentina,
Fiorentina will start the new season in the Serie A with negative 19 points.
Furthermore, Fiorentina must play three matches at a neutral ground.
The club was also fined 120,000 euros.
30 point penalties were imposed on Fiorentina's points tally from last season, removing it from any of the European competition slots.

For Lazio,
Lazio starts the new season in the Serie A with negative 11 points.
Lazio will play two matches on neutral ground...
and be fined 120,000 euros.
30 point penalties were also imposed on Lazio, thus, removing this club from any European competition slots.

For Juventus,
Last season's Serie A winner, Juve will start the new season in the Serie B with a 17 point penalty; which was reduced from an earlier decision of 30 points.
The last two Italian league titles won by Juventus in 2005 and 2006 were revoked and left unallocated.
The club will also have to play three matches at a neutral venue...
and pay a fine of 120,000 euros.

Poor Juve...
But I do hope the board members were fair and just.

It will be interesting to see wad happens in the new season!
This also marks a great improvement in Italian football where match fixing, an age old problem, has been so openly dealt with!

To Argue, Or Not To Argue?

I was considering this question in my head as i was finishing work at the restaurant last nite.

Many times there will be ppl who think opposite of wad you think...
& they will want to argue with wad you think as if they are totally right and you are wrong...
wad shud i do?
Option #1: Holler Back! Fight fire with fire till one side of the firewall tumbles!
Option #2: Take it... Only answer gently...
Option #3: Drop It Like It's Hot! Walk away...

#2 is usually the measure i take...
i smile & listen to wad this emotional preacher has got to say...
if i feel like it, i will come up with a clever twist...
but usually i jz stay silent.

Sometimes i wonder if i shud hav, #1, raised my voice & argued with him...
I wonder if that form of retaliation will be productive...
none of the points we discuss will ever be understood nor pondered by our opponent because both of us will be to mentally occupied with finding a way to lash out at the other...
Like two high walls banging against each other...
But it will feel real good to win thou...

But as a Christian shudnt i, #3, walk away?
As i pondered this with God in mind...
I found tat when a person is set in his thinking no ammount of pounding or obvious propaganda will ever sway his mentality...
Therefore, it wud be pointless for me to wana argue with such a person.

Then i pondered on wad cud be done to change the thinking of a determined person...
I found tat i cannot do much...

Wad can i do to change the thinking of a hardened fool?
only God will be able to reach another person without having to meet a mentally errected firewall.
Only afta God has reached a person, will the walls of Jericho come falling down & true understanding be formed...

Read this article afta work last nite & it helped back wad i think...

Not Quarrelsome
And the servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient. ~ 2 Timothy 2:24
There should be no quarrelsome Christians. The truth of God is within us; we need never be intimidated or frustrated by those who do not accept God's truth.
At times people may disagree with you regarding God's Word. Perhaps they question the way you say He is leading you, or they may challenge your faith in God. At times like these it is never helpful to argue. You will never debate anyone into the kingdom of God. You will never persuade someone that God has spoken to you by out arguing them! Only God can convince others of the veracity of His word to you. If you will allow God to vindicate you in His time, and in His way, a time will come when the wisdom of your choice will be evident (Luke 7:35). If you find yourself often quarreling with others, you need to ask God to clearly reveal your motives and to forgive you for your disobedience to His clear command.
If your motivation for arguing comes from your desire to be right, or to be exonerated, or to gain the esteem of those listening to you, you are acting selfishly, and God will not honor you. God is not interested in how right you are. He is interested in how obedient you are. God's command is not that you win arguments, but that you are kind and forgiving when others mistreat you. You bring God no honor by winning a dispute in His name, but you reflect a Christlike character when you demonstrate patience to those who mistreat you or misunderstand your motives. Arguing may never win people to your view, but loving them as Christ does will win you many friends over time!

Kamlini, Special 2 No End

Kamlini is one of the few frens i made in New Zealand with whom i truly click wif.
We hav a wonderful & blooming friendship...
Therefore, it is my honour to come up with something that will reflect our kinship for her birthday which falls on every 23rd July.

The first thing i did was take her out for dinner...
So last nite at 7pm we met at Manners Mall and walked around looking for a restaurant when we stumbled upon this interesting Thai restaurant, The Original Thai, at Tory st.
Do read my review for this restaurant at

We shared everything...
The 2 wonderful fresh & yummy entrees...

<---- Meatballs &, my fav pastry, Curry Puffs!

The 2 stir-fry Mains & one seafood Tom Yam soup! ---->

We hada bottle of Kim Crawford 2005 Pinot Noir n it was excellent!
It was a wonderful dining experience!

After dinner, Nesa & I walked her all the way home to Stafford House from the restaurant.
Little did she know that a surprise party, organised by Julie her rommate, was waiting for her! After she opened the door to a seemingly dark apartment, the lights suddenly flicked on & the 15ppl in her little apartment shouted, SURPRISE!!!

During the party,
I poped a gigantic 1L bottle of Lindauer Brut, a gift from Nesa & I...
Kamlini blew her candles & cut her 3 yummy looking cakes, baked by Stephanie & the other girls...
Then, there was the gift opening session... where she recieved gifts from everyone!

The Night was a total success!!
Good work Julie & thanks to all who came, contributed and waited patiently for her return!

5 Months in Less Than a Day

"Are 5 Months Less Than 24hrs?"
Keep this question at the back of your mind while i teach you some maths...

I am sponsored by the Malaysian government for my studies in New Zealand.
As an allowance, i should get $724 per month.
However, if i want the government to pay for my accomodations in NZ,
being self-catered, i get 60% ($434) of my allowance
being catered, i get 20% ($144)
Notice the difference between self-catered & catered is $290 a month or $72.5 a week.

I stay in a Studio Double with Nesa.
My accomodations provider, Unicomm, provides 2 plans for those who stay in the studios.
Catered & self-catered.
Fees are,
for self-catered, $170 per week
for catered, $215 per week

Therefore, it would be really wise for me to ask the government to pay for my accomodations because they only charge me a portion of the price, by decucting from my allowance.
However, having only 20% of your allowance is really depressing...

Therefore, a great plan has been adopted by Nesa & i.
If we can get the government to pay for my self-catered fees, we can get 60% of our allowance!
But we want to be catered...
so we will just top up to get catered!

How will this help us get more money?
If we top up, we only have to pay: $215-$170 = $45 per week.
However, if we hav the government pay for our catered accomodations, we get only 20% of our allowance, which is equal to paying $72.5 per week!
Therefore, toping up saves us: $72.5-$45 = $27.5 per week; or $110 per month!
Thus, the top up plan wud b the best plan for me & Nesa!

How did we go about materialising the plan?
At first, i depended on MSD to get Nesa & i on that plan...
but even after 5 months, it was to no avail...
the officer told us it cudnt be done and just told us to switch to the self-catered plan...
We were very dissatisfied because the plan was devised by another MSD officer for JPA scholarship students and he managed to materialise the plan!

Therefore, we set off one fine morning to work out the plan on our own...
First, we went to Victoria University Student Accomodation Services & met Nick Merrett the manager of the aforementioned student service department.
She is the person responsible for overseeing all student hostels, including Unicomm.
We told her about the plan & she said an enthusiastic OK!
However, she said she cannot do anything from her side...
she told us tat we didnt hav to see her actually...
all we had to do was to only deal with Unicomm!
My MSD officer said that Nick was a very busy person and was always unable to make space an appointment wif the officer.
And yet, we jz walked into a meeting with her without the need for an appointment!

So we walked down the hill & met Jamie at the reception of Unicomm...
we told her about the plan & she said an enthusiastic OK as well!
so we paid for the top up & it was settled...

We achieved something in 24hrs tat cudnt be materialised by a Malaysian Student Department of the Malaysian High Commission in New Zealand for 5 months!
"Are 5 Months Less Than 24hrs?"

To the MSD officer:
Plz improve your ability to serve your students...
I do not mind if u took a long time...
Just dont say tat it cudnt be done when it cud be so EASILY done!

and dont get angry because we did it ourselves...
it is only logical for intellectual beings to do things themselves
when someone they are supposed to depend on, fails...

wads done is done...
i forgive you...
learn from this mistake and do serve other students, who may be even more needy than us, better!

To my readers who are depending on MSD:
Do not be discouraged from trying something when such a highly depended and supposedly resourseful organisation fails you...
You shud giv it a try yourself FIRST!

To my juniors coming in next year:
Take note of this so you can get more from your allowance next year!

2006 Trimester 1 Holiday Resolutions Report

It has been five days since my Trimester 1 holidays ended...
The Trimester 2 academic week started out quite well with little hicups & problems...
My thanks to a great God & every person tat helped make this possible!

For my 3 week holiday, i had 3 aspirations:
1. Read some books/novels
2. Get to know NZ better
3. Get an 18+ Card

~~ Resolution 1

I didnt read many books in the holiday...
but i took a step towards this resolution by making myself a member of the Wellington Central Library!

To become a member of the library, all you need to bring is a letter with your current address printed on it. Exp: bank statement, insurance letter.

Go to the library during business hours & then follow the signs to the "Membership" counter. There you hav 2 fill a form. After that, the person serving you will hand you your library card and a few brochures. Here, you will notice tat you will hav to pay a meagre sum to borrow certain material. exp: popular books like Da Vinci Code or Harry Potter.

Now go sign up to a world of knowledge!!
havent used my card yet thou...

~~ Resolution 2

I managed to achieve resolution 2 by going on a road trip to the South Island!
Will post on tat trip soon!
Spent around $1.5k thou... now im stricken by poverty...

~~ Resolution 3

I didnt manage to get a 18+ card jz yt due to the 2 week South Island road trip & this busy first week of the trimester.
I hav however, found the number of a nearby Justice of Peace. This person will hav to sign on my 18+ card form acknowledging my eighteen-plus-ness before i can hand it in to be processed.

Will post about how to apply for it when i completed the form and handed it in!

Being Deaf By Choice

I hav learnt a lot from this article as well...
too many times i hav choosen not to listen or respond to God because it was not convinient for me or because i fear.
The result is soon i stop hearing from God & drift away...

I fear many things: embarassment, ridicule, loss, suffering & etc.
But who doesnt...
Then again, if we do not risk something and live outside of our comfort zone...
are we living at all?

I do hope that God will continue challenging me...
and i will continue to respond to Him even though i may fail again...
and again...
and again...

Let this life i live be lived for more than myself...
Let the works of my hands go beyond my desires...
Let the nakedness of my imperfection speak the wonders of my God...
Let me be strong enough to be weak...

- 2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

Quenching the Spirit
Do not quench the Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 5:19
We cannot prevent God from accomplishing His work in the world around us, but we can quench His Spirit in our lives. God has given us the freedom to withstand the Holy Spirit's activity in our lives. When we ignore, disobey or reject what the Spirit is telling us, we quench His activity in us. The prophet Isaiah described the result: "Hearing you will hear and not understand, and seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them" (Isa. 6:9; Matt. 13:14-15).
When you sin, the Holy Spirit will convict you of your need for repentance. If you habitually ignore Him and do not repent, your heart will grow hardened to God's Word. If the Spirit speaks to you about God's will for you, and if you refuse to take action, a time will come when the Spirit's voice will be muted in your life. If you continually reject the Spirit's promptings, a day will come when you no longer hear a word from God. If you repeatedly stifle God's Word to you so that you are no longer sensitive to His voice, He will not give you a fresh word. Be wary of resisting the voice of the Spirit in your life. You may not always be comfortable with what the Spirit is saying to you, but His words will guide you to abundant life.

Power, Not Words

This article has taught me several things...
It has also cleared up certain cobwebs that i hav had in my head for so long...
It jz shows me how wonderfully rich & powerful the Word of God is...

I hav always been easily swayed by powerful speaking and accertiveness...
Nw i hav grounds to see beyond the words spoken...
Nw i will examine the speaker's life...
The fruits of his life...
Wad is his life like?
Wad choices does he make in his life?
Do they tally wif wad he talks about?
Is there power in his life?

No longer will beautiful words spoken in a persuasive manner sway me...
My feet is on a Rock!
Read the article and recieve a similiar blessing!

by Broadman & Holman Publishers

Not in Word, But in Power
For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
1 Corinthians 4:20
Christianity is not moral platitudes, lofty intentions, and noble thoughts. The fundamental characteristic of God's kingdom is power. Paul faced constant criticism about his work among the early churches. Some of his detractors would travel to cities such as Corinth and speak extensively about all that Paul was doing incorrectly. At times, people in the churches were enticed to believe the slanderous criticisms against the apostle.
Paul responded with a reminder that the test of a kingdom citizen's authenticity was not the persuasiveness of his words, but the spiritual power of his life. Paul candidly acknowledged that some did not find him eloquent in speech (2 Cor. 10:10). Yet they could not question God's power in his life. He had seen many people converted, and many churches were started through his ministry. He had been used to heal the sick and raise the dead through God's power. Regardless of whether his words were eloquent, they carried spiritual power and authority that came from God.
You will encounter many people who seek to convince you of their opinions concerning the kingdom of God. They may speak passionately. They may even bring charts and graphs to prove their points! But the test of the validity of their words is the spiritual power of their lives. If a person speaks forcefully about a point of doctrine but is habitually sinning, his words are discredited by his life. If a person talks of the power of God but gives no evidence of victory in her life, her words are empty. It is much easier to talk about the victorious Christian life than it is to live it.
If you only have the appearance of godliness without any corresponding spiritual power (2 Tim. 3:5), ask God to cleanse you of your sin and to fill you with His Spirit so that your life is characterized by power.

Beloved Malaysia...

As many of you will know, I am a Chinese Malaysian currently fully sponsored by the Malaysian government in my persuit of a degree in New Zealand. I am really grateful to my country for sponsoring my studies. I am also very proud of the many achievements of my country.

However, as an intellectual being, i cannot ignore the injustices my country has been actively committing for many many generations. One of the biggest injustices committed by my country has to do with racial benefits. Especially in the area of education scholarships.

Why am i making such a fuss? It's because the government promised a system based on meritocracy. You get it if ur academic & co-curricular performances are good... your race & religion has got ntg to do with your selection. But as the government disclosed recently, this promise is only a half-truth.

"Based on the latest statistics provided by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Abdul Rahman Suliman, the racial breakdown of receipients was more favourable to non-bumiputeras this year, comprising 23.8% of the receipients. In the past 5 years, it has been consistently limited to 20%."

DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A HATE MESSAGE!I am just stating facts...
How you choose to act is your responsibility...

I choose to make a difference!
Let's continue to intercede for this nation
& keep racial harmony intact even though there is no racial equality.
One day Malaysia will SHINE like a City on a Hill!
